Melissa D. Cianci, Partner

Ms. Cianci is an attorney who focuses exclusively on family law matters, helping individuals navigate through the emotional and financial upheaval that can occur during the dissolution of marriage. Ms. Cianci is a 2002 Cum Laude graduate from California State University, Sacramento, and a member of the honor's society, Lambda Pi Eta, Epsilon Phi Chapter. She is a 2005 graduate of University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. During her tenure at McGeorge, Ms. Cianci participated in the Community Legal Services program where she learned to appreciate the complexities and intricacies of family law. She received the prestigious Witkin Award in 2004 for achieving academic excellence in Professional Responsibility and was the 2004 recipient of the Loren S. Dhal Scholarship for academic excellence in Bankruptcy Law. Ms. Cianci was admitted to the State Bar in 2005, and is licensed to practice before all California State Court and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California. She is a member of the Family Law Section of both the Sacramento and Placer County Bar Association. Ms. Cianci is a resident of Placer County, and enjoys spending her free time with her family and three bulldogs.

Kevin M. Cecil, Partner

Kevin M. Cecil is a lifelong Sacramento resident. He graduated from California State University-Chico in 2002 with a degree in Sociology, and is a 2006 graduate from the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. Since the time he was young, he has been exposed to and involved with our local legal community. Many members of his family either practice law, currently serve as a judge or previously served as a judge. Prior to and during law school, Mr. Cecil worked in a variety of legal areas and settings, including criminal defense, personal injury, family law, and civil litigation. After passing the California State Bar, he began working as a juvenile delinquency attorney for the Placer County Public Defender's office. Thereafter, primarily due to his exposure to our juvenile population, Mr. Cecil gravitated to family law and opened his own practice. He has assisted numerous clients in many areas of family law, including guardianships, dependency actions and domestic violence restraining orders. Mr. Cecil has developed the skills to be an effective oral advocate for every type of client. His case-by-case approach serves the best needs of his clients and helps them to obtain the best possible results.

Hon. Thomas M. Cecil (Ret.), Of Counsel

The Honorable Thomas M. Cecil retired from the Sacramento Superior Court in late 2010 after a distinguished career on the bench of almost twenty-two years. Judge Cecil served for two terms as the Presiding Judge of the Sacramento Superior Court and, just prior to his retirement, as the Supervising Judge of Family Law and Probate. In 1999, he was honored as Judge of the Year by the Sacramento County Bar Association. Judge Cecil is a 1975 graduate of McGeorge School of Law. Judge Cecil can assist you with all facets of family law, including support and custody litigation. He has extensive experience with cases involving domestic violence and was responsible for establishing the dedicated domestic violence court in the Family Relations Court in Sacramento County. He also offers his services as a mediator or private judge.

Following graduation from law school, Judge Cecil worked for the California State Assembly and State Senate. He worked in private practice handling general business and political matters until his appointment by Governor George Deukmejian as the Deputy Director and Chief Counsel of the California Department of Consumer Affairs (1983-89). He served as the Chair of the Pacific Bell Telecommunications Consumer Advisory Panel and as Chair of the Judicial Council's Advisory Committee on Technology. He is a member of the Sacramento and Placer County Bar Associations, the Sacramento County Bar Family Law Section and the Placer County Bar Family Law Section. Judge Cecil is licensed to practice in all California state courts and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California.

Judge Cecil resides in Sacramento with his wife and three dogs. Their adult children are practicing attorneys, as is his wife. They enjoy cycling and hiking with their dogs.
